So, what is a doula?
-
A professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother and her partner before, during, and after birth.
-
Informational Support: A doula keeps you and your partner informed during each stage of your pregnancy by educating you on options and providing evidence-based resources.
Emotional Support: A doula is a continuous comforting presence offering reassurance and encouragement and helping you and your partner work through fears and doubts throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Physical Support:
Massage & counterpressure
Position changes and movement suggestions for optimal labor progression
Hydrotherapy (bath, shower, etc.)
Creating a calming environment
Hydrating & feeding
Hands-on infant feeding support
-
A doula does not replace a midwife or OB-GYN and she does not perform any medical procedures like fetal heart rate monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, cervical exams, or catching the baby.
-
Whether planned or unplanned, a Cesarean birth can come with fears, anxieties, and unknowns. A doula provides the same physical, emotional, and informational support in these birth experiences. Her presence and guidance helps parents navigate and manage expectations, reduce anxiety, support the partner and family, assist with immediate postpartum care, and process the birth in the weeks and months following. She may also be present for the birth itself, depending on hospital policy.
-
Doulas honor the importance of fathers being involved in prenatal preparation and labor and delivery support by offering information about the birthing process, helping them work through fears or apprehensions, teaching them pain management techniques, offering reassurance and comfort during the birth process, and providing education about how to support a mother in the postpartum period.

After an initial free consultation, you will sign a contract and pay the retainer fee (50% of the total cost) unless you select a payment plan.
We will meet for your prenatal sessions, in your home or a location of your choosing. I will provide materials, including a workbook, and we will practice positions, exercises, develop a birth plan, and discuss anything and everything related to you, your pregnancy, and your birth preferences.
From 37-42 weeks, I will be “on call” for your labor and birth. You can call me anytime, day or night, when you believe changes are happening or labor has begun. I will meet you at home or at your chosen hospital/birth center. I will remain at the hospital/birth center with you until your baby is born and you are settled. For a planned Cesarean birth or induction, I will meet you and your partner at the hospital as you check in.
I will visit you and your family in your home in the postpartum period to ensure you are recovering well, breastfeeding is going well if you choose to do so, and help you process the birth and postpartum experiences.
